Export to Word error

I'm trying to perform an Export to Word for a module with over 3000 objects.

For smaller modules the operation works fine so far, but for this larger one I encounter a DOORS error window. The error appears mid-way through (bombs out in different places each time):

"OLE method failed. OLE problem. This method or porperty is not available because the Clipboard is empty or not valid"

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Have you set the option to save the Word file after xx objects while exporting? This can help with large exports try saving every 100 objects.

Hi - I raised what I think is same error about two years back with Telelogic (case 1066724, led to defect 30775 - note these are all Telelogic ref nrs, not IBM).

They said that "the error was being caused by Windows running out of Paged Memory because of the size of the OLE's the exporter is copying to the clipboard. This error could occur on any Windows O.S."

We run on terminal server and they further said that "The reason we're seeing frequently on a Windows 2003 server/Terminal services configuration is paged memory is more restricted on this setup than it is on other configurations. As a potential workaround you could try doubling the virtual memory on the Windows 2003 server machine". I did increase and it alleviated some, but not all. I also found that a full TS restart would fix, but it would quickly recur.

They subsequently confirmed this as DOORS defect above but I'm not sure where that got to - to be honest I stopped tracking as we don't use exporting that much and even above took alot of dialogue time.

Kieran

Thanks for the responses.

Given the difficulties with export to Word I have instead been exporting as RTF. This produces a base document that can then be pasted into a fancier Word document (e.g. based on a corporate template).

We are also evaluating IBM Ration Publishing Engine for more sophisticated document generation from DOORS models. So far this appears to be a much more complex approach, and I'm not sure yet how well it will scale.
